What is it?

First Year Seminar is a three-credit hour course taught by our faculty and staff who have specialized expertise to support you as you transition to college. First Year Seminar, we introduce you to our academic resources, student-development opportunities, and campus life. Our overarching goals are to help you develop critical-thinking, scholarly inquiry, information-literacy and management skills.

Meet Fellow Students

We want to help you adjust to our campus community. First Year Seminar asks you take part in individual and group projects and presentations so you can work together and meet new people. You'll also attend campus events like plays, concerts, guest speakers, and other social activities to help you get comfortable with your peers, faculty, and the broader campus community.

Engage with Faculty and Staff

Our First Year Seminar courses focus on experiential, student-centered learning. Each professor brings their own experience and expertise to the course, but all First Year Seminar classes involve personal mentoring with faculty who will offer guidance in your first year and beyond.

First Year Seminar is designed to help students develop essential skills for college success, including time management, information literacy, critical thinking, self-care, and professional communication skills.

Understand The Value of General Education

The concept of general education is to help you develop knowledge, skills and cultural understanding. General education helps to support and enhance major education along with a desire for lifelong learning. General Education course, including First Year Seminar, will improve your ability to think clearly and communicate effectively.
