Nursing
IntroductionYou've always wanted to care for people, right? Make them feel better when they're sick? Help them live healthier lives? Well, that's exactly what a nurse does, so a nursing major may be a great choice for you.
Programs
We offer a bachelor’s degree in nursing, which gives you the skills you need to be successful and confident in the nursing field.
On your way to earning your bachelor’s degree in four years, you’ll first earn an associate degree, which will prepare you to take the National Council Licensure Examination – known as the NCLEX – to become a licensed, registered nurse.
Once you earn your associate degree and pass the NCLEX, you may choose to work as a nurse in a hospital or other healthcare setting while completing your bachelor’s degree.
Your path to earning your bachelor’s degree:
- Year one: You’ll take courses that meet the university’s graduation requirements, including Anatomy & Physiology, Psychology, and English.
- Year two: You’ll gain real-world experience during clinical time in a variety of local hospital and healthcare settings.
- Year three: Once you complete the spring term of this year, you’ll have completed the coursework required for the associate degree and will be eligible to take the RN licensure exam (NCLEX) and begin working as a registered nurse.
- Year four: You’ll take courses and have clinical experiences that will focus on nursing research, community health, and leadership development. The fourth year of study is offered in a hybrid fashion (55% in-person and 45% asynchronous) 2 days a week, complementing the work schedule if you choose to work as a registered nurse while completing your bachelor’s degree. In 2025, year four will be completely online and asynchronous. For more information please contact Dr Jean Truman.
Synchronous classes are offered in real-time with students and instructors attending together but remotely from different locations using web and videoconferencing technologies – set schedules and live discussions.
Asynchronous classes are offered with students accessing class materials during different hours and from different locations offering flexibility in a self-paced manner – examples: discussion boards/forums, video/audio files, online quizzes.
Nursing school and sports are definitely possible to do together; it takes dedication, but with the right mindset and support, you can excel in both. I’m forever grateful for the incredible journey and the people who helped make it possible.
