Two University of Pittsburgh at Bradford’s branding projects captured awards in the international MarCom Awards program, which recognizes outstanding achievement in marketing and communications materials and programs

Pitt-Bradford’s brand refresh project, which was launched in late March, received a platinum award. A one-minute video, which visually conveyed the ideas of the new brand, was awarded a gold.
Both projects were created by Red Cactus Marketing, a research and branding firm based in Tucson, Ariz., which conducted extensive research then developed creative materials based on the results of that research

The brand refresh focuses on two central ideas that emerged during the research: Pitt-Bradford students value being part of a welcoming, energized and supportive campus community as well as being part of the University of Pittsburgh and earning the Pitt degree

The brand project also included a new campaign theme: “Pitt Forged. Bradford Inspired.”

The second award-winning entry, which was a part of the refresh project, was a one-minute video that visually communicates the brand’s core themes. The video features several students and faculty members from some of Pitt-Bradford’s most popular majors, including biology, nursing, engineering technology, criminal justice, and computer information systems and technology.

“These projects were the result of a great creative collaboration between the team at Red Cactus Marketing and many members of the Pitt-Bradford community,” said Pat Frantz Cercone, Pitt-Bradford’s executive director of communications and marketing.

MarCom Awards recognize outstanding achievement by creative professionals involved in the concept, direction, design and production of marketing and communication materials and programs. Entries come from corporate marketing and communication departments, advertising agencies, public relations firms, design shops, production companies and freelancers.

There were more than 6,500 entries from throughout the United States, Canada and 43 other countries. Winners were selected from more than 300 categories in print, web, video and strategic communications.

Entries are judged by industry professionals who look for companies and individuals whose talent exceed a high standard of excellence and whose work serves as a benchmark for the industry. Entries receiving scores of 90-100 are platinum winners. Entries with 80-89 points are gold winners.
