Kathy Moonan and Tammy Luciano, who have 72 years’ combined service at the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford, have announced their retirements.

Moonan and Luciano most recently worked in the Office of Business Affairs, Moonan as the director of business affairs and Luciano as a financial assistant. Moonan, who has worked at the university for 46 years, will retire by the end of 2024. Luciano, who had been employed at Pitt-Bradford for 26 years, retired Oct. 18.

“Kathy and Tammy have made an indelible mark on Pitt-Bradford,” said Rick Esch, Pitt-Bradford’s president.

“Throughout their careers, they dedicated themselves to helping our students succeed and to working closely with the entire campus community for the betterment of the university.

“We’re very happy for both of them, but all of us at Pitt-Bradford are going to miss them.”

The two were honored during a campus reception earlier this month.

Moonan, the longest serving staff member in Pitt-Bradford’s history, started working as a secretary in finance at the university literally days after graduating from high school in 1978.
She worked for many years as the manager of accounts payable until her promotion to director of business affairs in 2022.

“Kathy is well known throughout the university,” Esch said. “She established herself over her career as someone who knows how to get things done. She does it the right way even if it’s the harder way to do it.”

“She always steps in as needed,” Esch said, adding that over the years Moonan has put on an apron to help out in the kitchen and stuffed envelopes to get the bills out.

While Moonan is retiring, she won’t be leaving Pitt-Bradford. She plans to return to campus in the spring as a volunteer to work on the campus grounds. Moonan’s father, Fred Henke, was the groundskeeper at Pitt-Bradford for 15 years.

“I’ll be picking up where my dad left off to make the grounds look perfect,” Moonan said.

Luciano began her career at Pitt-Bradford in August 1998 as a part-time book seller specialist in the Panther Shop and was hired full time in September 2000. Five years later, she was given responsibilities for sundries buying in the bookstore. In November 2019, she was hired full time as a financial assistant in the Office of Business Affairs.

“Throughout Tammy’s career, she has always put the needs of the students first and made sure that they had whatever they needed,” Esch said.
