Short Bio
Melissa Odorisio is a 1999 graduate of Allegheny College where she earned a BS in Chemistry. She obtained a master’s degree in chemical education from SUNY Fredonia in 2004. After teaching at the high school level for several years, Melissa began teaching general chemistry and science education at SUNY Fredonia. Since 2015, Melissa has held the role of laboratory administrator and chemistry instructor at Pitt Bradford. She teaches a variety of courses in the areas of organic chemistry, general chemistry, and environmental chemistry. Melissa has also developed and is actively teaching the courses of research methods for environmental scientists and advanced research methods. She works with undergraduates doing research in water and soil sampling and analysis; identifying and extracting bioactive compounds in the essential oils of a variety of plants including invasive species; and extraction and quantification of microplastics in various environmental samples such as wastewater treatment sludge.
