Short Bio

Dr. Oloye is a renowned physical organic chemist who has dedicated his career to studying the impact of human activities on the environment. He holds a Ph.D. from the University of Aberdeen, Scotland, and has worked at various prestigious universities in Nigeria, the UK and Canada. He was a research associate at the Prof. John Giesy laboratory in the Toxicology Center, University of Saskatchewan. Prior to his appointment at the University of Pittsburgh, Dr. Oloye was the lead wastewater scientist at the Roy Romanow Provincial Laboratory, Saskatchewan Health Authority, Canada. Dr. Oloye's research on wastewater surveillance has the potential to prevent the spread of diseases and save countless lives.

Academic Focus

Our research team is interested in the synthesis of novel nano-materials for catalytic applications. In the past, we have synthesized, characterized, and tested different types of molybdenum carbide or oxy-carbide zirconia-based catalysts for the hydro-isomerization of n-alkanes. Hydro-conversion reaction is important in refineries because it helps improve fuel efficiency without artificial additives. Beyond hydro-conversion, we also synthesize heterogeneous catalysts for various other industrial applications, such as biofuel (or biodiesel), hydrogenation, and environmental remediation. We are also interested in turning the properties of TiO2-based and zeolite materials using molybdenum oxide for photocatalytic applications. Our group is highly knowledgeable in the use and interpretation of data obtained from most of the characterization tools, such as X-ray diffraction (XRD), Raman Spectroscopy, Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR), Surface Area Analyser, Temperature Programmed Reduction and Oxidation (TPRO), X-ray photoelectron Spectroscopy, Scanning Electron Microscope and Transmission Electron Microscope.

Also, we are interested in understanding the environmental chemo-dynamics of various environmental pollutants. Our group is open to collaborating with other groups in method development. Furthermore, we are interested in understanding possible interactions between food additives under different prevailing environmental conditions.
