Timothy Vallely, a graduating senior from Erin, N.Y., will be commissioned as a second lieutenant in the New York Army National Guard on April 30 in Harriett B. Wick Chapel on campus.

Vallely, a criminal justice major, will serve as an infantry officer. U.S. Army Lt. Col James Carrier, chair of the department of military science at St. Bonaventure University, will administer the oath. Vallely’s parents, Sean and Theresa Vallely, will pin on his new rank insignia. Vallely will receive his first salute as an officer from Master Sgt. Brandon Manning, a senior military science instructor in the Army ROTC Seneca Battalion at St. Bonaventure.

Pitt-Bradford is one of six colleges and universities that make up the Seneca Battalion, hosted by St. Bonaventure University in nearby Allegany, N.Y. Other schools in the battalion are Houghton (N.Y.) College, Alfred (N.Y.) University, the State University of New York at Alfred and Jamestown (N.Y.) Community College.

The Seneca Battalion was founded in 1936. Pitt-Bradford has been a part of the Battalion since 1979.
